SBAC Details from Meagan

- SBAC Achievement Level Setting:  I hope that each of you will STRONGLY encourage your teachers to participate in this.  We were told at WERA that commitment will be over a set time period, working electronically, and the total time involved will be about 3 hours per person.  I think this is a great way for staff to build deeper understanding of the SBAC assessments.  This is also open to parents/community if you have a way to publicize that.  You will find additional information as well as the application, at:

- Smarter Balance Digital Library:  You, and your teaching staff, should have received an email on July 30, with this subject line (It was auto-generated.  I would not have started it with 'PROD'):
PROD: Welcome to the Smarter Balanced Digital Library
Thank you Tonia Tucker for working with OSPI to get the upload file working!! If by chance this email got deleted by anyone, login names are the district email address, and the initial password is Whiteriver2014#.  It's important to note that the accounts will all need to be re-established on October 1st.  While I have been told by the state that any favorites, groups, or forums that you set up will still be there after October 1st, this is not a 100% for sure statement, so while I encourage teachers to explore the resources, don't spend a lot of time setting up personal preferences!  They may be gone on October 2!!

7 Common Commitments

2 years ago our staff agreed upon 7 Common Commitments that we would make to each other and to our community. These are essential to our work because they define How we will do the work!  and What the work is?  Can you remember what they are? Which one is the most important to you at this time in your work at Wilkeson and why?  Add your comment below and make sure you add your name! There will be a little gift awaiting you on August 27th after you comment on this post.

RTI June 10th
Objectives for the time
Teachers: Please be ready to share about a student or small group of students that you are most proud of that made accelerated growth in your classroom. Be specific as to their growth and the strategies you used to help them.
As a Grade Level and RTI Core Team, we will be reflecting on these questions:
1) Identify and share 1 particular student or 1 particular group of students who showed accelerated growth this year and why? (Be specific)
2) Teachers will reflect on what they did well to help individual and groups of students to learn more? Should get different strategies for all the different needs. (Record specifics)
3) Ask how we could help these students accelerate even more as a building? (Record specifics)

FROM PAM JETER

Howdy all-
(Principals, please communicate out the following to your staff)
Tonia is opening up the grading period this afternoon, so teachers, should they choose, could start entering in report card grades over the weekend.
Additionally, we are opening up Tri 2 Grading period, so if teachers need to make adjustments to Tri 2 grades, they may do so. HOWEVER, they should touch base with their building principal to ensure everyone is aware of the change.
Important Due Dates:
1) Specialists Grades Done Wednesday, June 4th by 4pm. 2) Classroom Teachers: Monday, June 9th, due in share folder, first thing that morning, ready for Dolly to starting printing that day.
Report Cards go home with students on June 13th.
Office Managers: I will be training Specialists how to "save" their gradebook for archival purposes. All other teachers will need to follow the same procedures your building has had for retaining Gradebooks.
I will be having Dolly print TWO copies of the Report Cards:
1- to go home to parents
2nd- For cum file

MOVE UP DAY
On June 11th at 2:30 teachers will tell students their new teacher’s name and room number and dismiss or walk their students to those rooms. Students should be packed up, but leave things in their rooms. Teachers will have 45 mins to meet and greet their students, play a game, share the plan for next year, read a story, introduce one another, etc. The objective is to relieve anxiety
Centennial Time Capsule
Teachers be prepared on June 12th for your class to present a Time Capsule collection at the conclusion of Camp Read-A-Lot in the gym. The cache can be no larger than a small shoe box. The capsule will be scheduled to be opened on 2040. Here are some ideas on how to proceed:
  • Brainstorm ideas with your class
  • Collect the items from your class (A small shoebox and folder will be provided)
  •  Think of unique and special items of today
  •  Pictures past/present
  •  Historical events
  •  Student Art
  •  Students looking ahead: make predictions, what will they be doing
